Ciprotab 500mg is a powerful antibiotic containing ciprofloxacin, which is effective against a broad range of Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria. It is primarily indicated for treating bacterial infections, such as urinary tract infections, bronchitis, sinusitis, typhoid fever, gastrointestinal infections, and bone and joint infections. Ciprofloxacin works by targeting bacterial DNA replication enzymes, preventing the bacteria from multiplying and causing further damage.
Each pack of Ciprotab includes 10 tablets, offering convenience for short-term treatment courses. The usual adult dosage is 500mg taken twice daily, but the exact dosage and duration depend on the severity and location of the infection. Ciprotab should be taken with plenty of water to prevent crystalluria (formation of crystals in urine). Patients are advised to avoid taking it alongside dairy products, calcium supplements, or antacids, as these can reduce its absorption and effectiveness.
While Ciprotab is generally well-tolerated, some patients may experience mild side effects, such as nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, or headache. In rare cases, ciprofloxacin can lead to serious side effects, including tendon damage, central nervous system effects like seizures or confusion, and heightened sensitivity to sunlight (photosensitivity). Patients should immediately report any severe or unusual symptoms to their healthcare provider.
Ciprotab is not suitable for everyone and must be prescribed with caution. It is contraindicated for children, pregnant and breastfeeding women, and individuals with a history of tendon disorders or quinolone hypersensitivity. Patients with existing medical conditions, such as kidney impairment or those on specific medications like corticosteroids, should inform their doctor before starting Ciprotab. Proper adherence to the prescribed dosage and completing the full course of treatment is crucial to avoid antibiotic resis
tance.
